Geneva, 26 June 2026 |
As the seven Core States spearheading the Convention against Torture Initiative (CTI), we join the international community in marking the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.
On this day, we honour the courage, strength and resilience of victims of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment around the world. We reaffirm our shared commitment to continue working towards a world where torture and other forms of ill-treatment have no place, and in which victims have effective access to justice, redress and rehabilitation.
State-to-State, peer-to-peer dialogue and exchange enable us to learn from one another in ongoing efforts to prohibit, prevent, investigate and punish acts of torture and other ill-treatment, and to provide redress and rehabilitation to victims. Through such approaches, CTI remains committed to supporting States from all regions towards ratification and improved implementation of the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
