10th Annual Forum reinforces global commitment to torture prevention and response

Geneva, 11 December 2025 |

More than 60 participants including representatives from over 30 States and 10 organisations, as well as experts and members of CTI’s Group of Friends network, gathered today to mark the 10th Annual Forum of the Convention against Torture Initiative (CTI).

The Forum showcased progress made in 2025 towards increased ratification and implementation of the UN Convention against Torture, through activities reaching over 35 States. Participants shared promising practices emphasising how rights-based reforms strengthen institutions, enhance accountability, and align with national priorities.

A high-level panel explored the links between anti-torture efforts and the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, exploring how efforts to address torture and other ill-treatment contribute to sustainable development, while progress across all Sustainable Development Goals creates conditions vital to effective UNCAT implementation, including the justice-specific scope of SDG 16.

CTI expresses its appreciation to all participating States, organisations and experts for their active engagement and constructive contributions. Their collaboration reinforces the shared commitment to advancing universal ratification and effective implementation of UNCAT and to achieving the 2030 Agenda.
